Earned master degree in Sociology from Monash University in Australia in. She is a lecturer for the course of sociology in Faculty of Sharia, State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Sunan Kalijaga. She also involves actively in various programs related with women empowerment, both in national and international level. She is appointed as chairperson of Women Study Centre/ Pusat Kajian Wanita (PSW) IAIN Sunan Kalijaga, member of CTSD and Women Crisis Center Rifka Annisa as well as committee of Coalition against Trafficking in Women (CATW) South East Asia Region based in Manila. Besides she was in charge as Secretary of Women Issue and Family Division of Central Board of Muhammadiyah (1995-2000) and currently working as Research Staff of the Centre of Demography Study/ Pusat Studi Kependudukan (PPK) University of Gadjah Mada.
She has participated in numerous seminars and trainings dealing with women issues. Some of them were: 3 (three) weeks training on management for higher education (1996), Course Design Training for Higher Education (1997), 2 (two) years training for faculty developers (1997-1999). While in international level, were: 4 (four) months Women Fellowship in McGill University, Montreal Canada (1997), 8 (eight) days workshop of Reproductively Rights in Islam, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia (1998), 2 (two) weeks workshop of Human Rights in Philippine (1998) and 3 (three) months Training for Program Planning, Mc. Gill University and University of Alberta Canada (1998).
Some of her paper works have been published, such as: Identity Problem of Kartini (Bernas, 21 April 1994), The Optimization of Muslim Women (Journal of Shabran, 1996), Women’s Day versus Mother’s Day (Bernas, December 1996) and Feminist Theology and Islam in Indonesia (Duta Wacana, 1995). Currently, she is doing research preparation on women and politic in post New Order regime in Indonesia. She also becomes a speaker and resource person in some international seminars, such as: “Moslem Women in Contemporary Indonesia” in International Conference on Indonesia, Monash University (1991), “Roles Expectation of Women in Indonesia” Jakarta International Conference (1998), “Cultural Violation on Women” in International Meeting on Women and Sexual Exploitation, CATW, Dhaka, Bangladesh (1998) and “Democratizing Home Democratizing Nation “ in Islam and Civil Society in Southeast Asia, Melbourne (1998).
