Tamrin Amal Tomagola is Professor at Sociology of University of Indonesia. He earned his master degree from Australian National University, Australia in 1982 and Ph.D from University of Essex, London United Kingdom, in 1990. He was a Dean of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences University of Indonesia (1988-2000) and was an Expert Staff of State Minister of Research and Technology (2000-2003). Currently he is a lecturer in postgraduate program in University of Indonesia (UI)
For two periods he was elected to be Secretary General of Indonesian Sociologist. Besides he was awarded numerous prize, such as Exemplary Lecturer Faculty of Social and Political Science (FISIP) UI in 1982 and as Favorite Lecturer in the same faculty in 2001. He also received award for his participations and efforts in Human Rights Campaign in Indonesia.
He is recognized as productive resource person both in national and international forum. Some of them were: Asian Conference on Diversity and Coexistence in Ceylon (2003); Regional Workshop on Indigenous Peoples and Poverty Reduction, held by (Asian Development Bank) ADB, Manila, 25-26 October 2001; International Workshop on Political Violence in Asia in Oslo, Norway in 2000, and ESCAP Meeting on Culture and The Care of The Elderly, Bangkok 1998.
He frequently wrote articles, analysis and paper work of social problems and it have been published in media, such as: Communal Conflict in Indonesia (2003), The Bleeding of Halmahera North Mollucas (2000), The Tragedy of North Mollucas (2000) and other papers concerning the issues social, politic, military, and conflict. He also writes on gender and social issues.
